Rabbit Ears

I sometimes struggle as leader with how to process good input from well meaning individuals. Yes, there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors, but their counsel can be overwhelming if not processed properly. Listening with “rabbit ears” is the habit of reacting to the advice from the last person with whom you speak. A better system is to prayerfully filter through wise counsel and identify the themes.

  • Using prayer as a filter protects us from haphazardly trying to please everyone, while not pleasing anyone. It also keeps us focused on the one thing that needs our attention. For example, you may need to stay in the sales process until you totally understand its nuances so you in turn can more effectively train other team members. Other voices may say you are too hands on, but prayer tells you this is the route to wise management.
  • Therefore, use “discerning ears” to better understand what needs to be done. Instead of responding in the moment to someone’s idea, respectfully thank that person and take into consideration the suggestion. Even when strong personalities are persuasive, be persistent in processing prayerfully. Discerning ears process through prayer.
