Some days I struggle with work. Is it a way to pay the bills or an answer to Christ’s high call on my life? It is easy to lose perspective when money becomes my motivator. So I ask myself, "Am I focused on building my career or building God’s kingdom?" Fortunately, His calling causes me to pause and often pray.

• I like what president of World Vision, Richard Stearns, says in his book The Hole in Our Gospel. Often we are too busy pursuing our careers to discern our calling.” He goes on, "Discerning our unique call is not always a simple thing. We need to be quiet enough to hear God’s still, small voice."
• Is your pursuit God's calling on your life or career advancement? Yes, seek excellence in everything you do and strive to be the best in your industry. But just make sure your Maker has you right where He made you to be. It's better to serve the poor in Africa and love them to Jesus than to build bigger barns here.
• Ask first what God wants you to do for Him, not what you want God to do for you!
