Leadership: Model the Way with Words
- Words build up or tear down. Our words can be pure and encouraging or poisonous and discouraging. Moment by moment we have the opportunity to inject courage into our colleagues with truthful, kind, and caring words. A good rule of thumb is to measure our words prayerfully and patiently.
- Do not allow anger and harshness to dominate your delivery. Use words as ointment rather than be an irritant. Our words are a reflection of our heart. A healed heart produces healing words.
- Therefore, use words wisely by:
- • Speaking as you would like to be spoken to--with a spirit of compassion.
- • Speaking for a redeeming reason--to build up rather than tear down.
- • Speaking the truth in love--choose healthy conflict over passive aggression.
- Are my words motivated by love? Do my words build up or tear down?
