Foundations of Fundraising

Fundraising has not always been something I have enjoyed; in fact, at times I have seen it as competition to ministry. However, a few years ago it dawned on me that fundraising is ministry. It is an opportunity to invest in people, even if they never give to Ministry Ventures, because God will direct hearts as He desires.

It has been freeing to experience fundraising as ministry to donors’ spiritual needs, their children’s needs, or just to be a listening ear and offer prayer support. So now I invite fundraising as an instrument of the Lord to love people and serve them. I try to be systematic around dedicating one day a week just for writing thank you notes, making phone calls, and confirming appointments over email.

It is also fulfilling to introduce givers to other givers who have similar passions and interests around business and kingdom endeavors. More than anything, fundraising has become a faith builder of learning to trust in the ultimate gift Giver, Jesus Christ. Like me, you can learn to embrace and celebrate fundraising for Christ’s sake while serving people!
