Developing Your Funding Tools
-
My experience in fundraising has been that the less I talk, the more money God seems to raise through me. This principle became a reality one morning several years ago as I unpacked my laptop at a local Waffle House to prepare for a meeting with the principle of a foundation, a very relational man to boot. Before I was able to fire up slide one of a cool PowerPoint presentation, my generous-giver friend ask me to put it away and instead share with him “eyeball to eyeball” my ministry passion and vision. It occurred to me that passion trumps lengthy content in a relational environment; however, I still felt the need for a marketing leave-behind describing Ministry Ventures.
-
A few months later over coffee I met with a ministry executive from Orlando who presented his ministry to me with passion and clarity. He left me a one-page, front-to-back overview of the details related to his ministry’s strategy, organization, and board. It was refreshing and compelling. At Ministry Ventures we modified his concept and created the Ministry Overview. By God’s grace, more money has been raised through this one-page tool than another communication piece we have. It forces the ministry leader (me) to be clear and concise, while giving substance to the ministry program and funding needs.
-
Remember: talk less, listen more, and use the Ministry Overview as an illustration of your ministry’s attention to detail, structure, and planning!
