Filling the Funnel: Part Two
You may say, like I do sometimes, “I want to populate my prospect funnel with people, but I have no clue where to find them.” It is when we are clueless that we can become the most creative. Begin by reviewing the names of donors who have helped in the past but have not given in the past couple of years. Perhaps they are in a different place now and are motivated once more to give. You never know how the Lord is stirring His children, so remain faithful to show up and see. Also, double up your efforts to meet with current donors to the ministry, and ask them to pray about a person they could introduce you to, and even join you and this friend over coffee or lunch. Friends of friends fit well within the funnel. Make it fun, but do not forget to follow up with new friends of your old friends.
Next, pray about a membership group that may allow you to present your ministry at one of its upcoming meetings. It may be the women’s missions association at a local church in the community, the Chamber of Commerce, or a Rotary Club group. Feel free to approach small local businesses or large corporations, asking them for an opportunity to share the vision of your ministry with their employees.
Events are another effective avenue for new donor prospecting: golf tournaments, auctions, and private dinners or desserts all work well. Remember to always ask for the business card or contact information of those who show an interest, and schedule a time for a site visit at your ministry, or some other opportunity for them to familiarize themselves with your work.
Finally, fill your funnel by faith!
