Social Media Mandate for Ministries

There are many advantages to having daughters and sons-in-law between the ages of 19 and 30. One is their passion and persuasiveness regarding social media. Over the past six months, I have trafficked through Twitter with a few wrecks along the way, felt my way through Facebook, looked into LinkedIn. I’ve learned just enough to be dangerous. But what has grabbed me is the reality of a compelling communication platform. Ministries that make a difference have a social media mandate!

  • Twitter
  • Twitter is a micro-blog outlet for the spontaneous of heart. You can share a truth, give a real time update about your life, or market your brand. It is fast and fun. The extroverts in your life need you Twittering so they are aware you are there!
  • Facebook
  • Facebook is your friend, and it is a facilitator of friends. Photos probably tell your story best on Facebook. This becomes your relational clearinghouse. Oh yeah, make sure you integrate your Tweets to show up on your Facebook page.
  • LinkedIn
  • LinkedIn is your and others’ virtual resume and business networking platform. Ministries require creative resources around donated time and in-kind gifts. LinkedIn is an opportunity for your ministry to market among professionals.
  • I recently devoured World Wide Rave by David Meerman Scott on my Kindle. This is must read for ministry leaders serious about social media!
